Reducing our emissions is a central component of our sustainability strategy. A particular focus here is on reducing our product-related CO2 emissions along the entire life cycle. In addition to the most important man-made greenhouse gas, carbon dioxide (CO2), there are other greenhouse gases such as methane and nitrous oxide. Therefore, when we talk about CO2, we always mean all greenhouse gas emissions, which are summarized with the term "CO2 equivalents". Our aim is to understand and continuously reduce our impact on the climate and the environment. We are already implementing a wide range of measures throughout the company to reduce our emissions. The main focus is on reducing the greenhouse gas potential.

The main focus of our climate protection efforts is on recording and analyzing our product-specific emissions using sound procedures such as life cycle assessments or environmental product declarations (EPDs). To this end, we look at the entire life cycle of our standard products and determine where savings in CO2 emissions are possible.

In addition to our standard products, we also look at our diverse construction projects and the associated greenhouse gas potential. As a general rule, the more advanced the project, the less influenceable the impact on the climate and environment and the more difficult it is to integrate climate change adaptation measures. We therefore want to make suggestions to our clients at an early stage on how to reduce emissions and counteract climate change. The possibilities are manifold and include the optimization of building materials, construction methods, building technology, construction machinery, transport and the associated processes. In addition to the emissions directly associated with the building or product, such as the materials used, we also consider indirect aspects such as the reduction of emissions caused by congestion.

We carry out regular emission measurements at our stationary plants such as the asphalt mixing plant or the combined heat and power plant, comply with the binding guideline values at all times and work to further reduce emissions. Immission control is a high priority for us, which is why it is important to protect people and the environment from construction-related or production-related emissions such as noise, dust or vibrations. We also take climate change into account for our own land and properties and implement the necessary adaptation measures.
