Renewal of the railroad overpass over the Danube near Fridingen
Renewal of the railroad overpass over the Danube near Fridingen
24.06.2024
On the railroad line from Tuttlingen to Sigmaringen, the 130-year-old steel truss bridge over the Danube had to be replaced.
For the new replacement, the old bridge, weighing 300 tons, was first cut in half and then excavated and demolished. The old abutments and piers were then demolished and the railroad embankment dismantled to make room for the new structure.
The new bridge now consists of two separate steel trusses. The superstructure 1 over land was pre-assembled on the side of the railroad line on the abutment and the central pier. Afterwards, the entire structure was pushed in crosswise with approx. 1,900 tons in one piece and lowered into the final position during a break. Subsequently, the superstructure 2 with a weight of almost 430 tons was lifted over the Danube using a 1000 ton crawler crane.
