Building Construction

15.05.2024

The construction project represents a pioneering integration of sustainability, Mobility, efficiency and comfort. It is characterized by an economical system construction method and will offer an expanded range of parking spaces. The new building project will replace the P8 Car Parks, which has been in existence since the airport opened in 1992.

The preparatory work, including demolition, dismantling and disposal of the old building, was successfully completed in 2023. The general contractor services were awarded in October 2023 following an EU-wide tender. The Max Bögl Group was awarded the contract and will implement the project to the highest standards. The new Car Parks is scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2026.

The new P8 project involves the construction of an eight-storey, above-ground Car Parks with a variety of innovative features. The top level will be executed with a retention roof and will therefore offer protection against wind and weather as well as retaining around 10,000 liters of rainwater. The number of parking spaces is around 3,700. 20 percent of the spaces are available for electric vehicles. P8 offers underground access to the existing south connecting tunnel with a direct link to Terminal 1 (areas D and E) and to the pedestrian route to Terminal 2.

Particular attention has been paid to the sustainability aspects of the project. For example, the demolition material was recycled and used for the substructure of the floor slab. State-of-the-art technology in the PV systems with an output of approx. 1.5 megawatts ensures sustainable energy generation and efficient LED lighting reduces energy consumption.
